Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with Paper Shoot x COKYSU

Continuing its celebration of Vietnamese culture, Paper Shoot has teamed up with COKYSU to create a new camera collection. Inspired by the traditions of Vietnam’s Mid-Autumn Festival, each design features the young artist’s gentle, playful illustrations.

Through this collection, Paper Shoot brings the warmth of the Festival of Reunion to your camera—a little reminder of childhood, family, and time spent together.

Mid-Autumn Lantern Processions

Children carrying lanterns in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Colorful lanterns glowing beneath the full moon are among the most familiar sights of Vietnam’s Mid-Autumn Festival, carrying wishes for good fortune and peace. Even with electronic lanterns widely available, handmade designs remain much loved.

Crafted from simple materials such as colored paper, cellophane, and bamboo frames, these lanterns take many forms. Traditional festival toys also include masks, rabbit-shaped lanterns, star lanterns, rotating lanterns, and small pellet drums.

On the night of the full moon, children carry their lanterns through village lanes and city streets, singing Mid-Autumn songs together. Their delight in these familiar toys is part of what makes the celebration so memorable.

Phỗng Đất: Traditional Clay Figurines

Brightly painted phỗng đất, or traditional clay figurines, hold a special place in memories of Mid-Autumn celebrations. Beyond being children’s toys, they express folk traditions and cultural values.

In traditional Mid-Autumn displays, clay figurines would sit alongside fruit, cakes, sweets, star lanterns, and a paper scholar figurine known as ông tiến sĩ giấy.

A traditional phỗng đất set contains five figures, each with its own meaning. A Buddha figure occupies the center, representing spiritual values and encouraging kindness and ethical living. A bird expresses the hope for peace, while a turtle symbolizes longevity and carries sacred associations in Vietnamese culture. An elderly person and a child represent the passing of traditions from one generation to the next.

The Playfulness of the Lion Dance

On the front of this camera design, a child wearing a lion-dance head surprises a nearby cat, while another child gently reassures it. Turn the camera over, and all three are playing together—with the cat wearing a little lion-dance costume of its own.

Bright colors and endearing illustrations make this design a cheerful gift for anyone who loves the spirit of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
